- Wilbur Siebert was an Associate Professor of European History at the Ohio State
University. He gathered and published a great deal of information about Underground
Railroad activities in Ohio at a time when some conductors were still alive. In
addition to his published books, the Ohio Historical
Society has boxes of original notes and correspondence in their library.

Steal Away: Songs of the
Underground Railroad
Stories and songs served as a guide to freedom and were the backbone of the
Underground Railroad. This album, by veteran
singers, songwriters and storytellers Kim and Reggie
Harris, is a rich collection
of mostly traditional music, as well as a remarkable lesson in the
importance of music. Steal Away brings together songs that were filled
with information essential for making the journey north.
Light a Candle In The Window
At the 6th annual Ohio Underground Railroad Summit,
one of the ladies hosting the reception at the Muskingum County
Foundation sang a few songs for us. Her CD with Underground Railroad
related songs - "Light a Candle in the Window" has been
released. It is $15.00.
Local historians and historical societies
- Local historians and historical societies are an invaluable resource. You might
try searching the Ohio Tourism web site or asking
for more information at your local library to find a local historical society.
