About the Ohio Underground Railroad Quilt

The Columbus Metropolitan Quilters (CMQ) Guild created a fabulous quilt rendition of Wilbur Siebert's Underground Railroad map of Ohio indicating counties, trails and stations.  The quilt was presented to the Friends of Freedom Society at our 2nd annual summit on October 18, 1997.

Under the direction of CMQ member Gail Sech Harbaugh,  quilters Maureen Seible McCormack, Betty Chaffin Nye, Wyrelene Strozier Mays, Pati Shambaugh, Judith Moore Everett, Pamela Helper Duff, Barbara Holt Payne, Helen Farrell Charlton, and Diane Gasser Hienton created the quilt in only ten months.

Quilts have long been associated with the Underground Railroad and the Friends of Freedom Society is proud to have such a beautiful and inspiring quilt documenting the history of Ohio.
